Everyone likes a bargain, but most of the time the old saying ‘you get what you pay for’ is normally heard when you realise you have bought a piece of junk. Thankfully the Hawk Trakatak is not a piece of junk.
Anyone expecting this bike to have all the fancy bells and whistles of a more expensive bike is going to be disappointed, this bike is basic, but would be perfectly fine for riding roads and cycle paths for relatively short journeys.
It does come fitted with a set of front and back V brakes and a stardard set of Shimano 18 speed gears. The grip shifters are to be expected on a bike in this price range but should be fine. Anyone looking to get a bike with some decent thumb shifters should check out the Barracua Core.
In terms of weight, the Trakatak is on the heavy side with its steel frame but unless you are looking to go long distances or tackle some steep inclines regularly then it won’t make a huge difference.
Considering the specs I can’t see any major issues with this bike given the price, and seeing as it has an almost identical setup to the North Gear RXT but costs about £30 less I’m surprised that it is not more popular.
