Welcome to our review of the North Gear RXT where we present information gathered from many sources, including customer testimonials, manufacturer specifications and our own experiences with this bike.
The North Gear RXT is an affordable front suspension mountain bike for riders who want to experience the thrill of mountain biking but without spending a large amount of money doing so. It is currently in the top 5 most popular bikes on Amazon right now and has a strong rating of 3.7 out of 5.
Delivery and Assembly
If you are ordering from Amazon then delivery is relatively fast and you can expect to have your bike delivered within 48 hours. Once you receive the bike you will see that it comes partially assembled with only a few components that need to be fastened before it is ready to ride.
The handlebars, pedals and the front wheel will need to be installed which should take no longer than 20 minutes even for a first-timer. Just make sure that you follow the instructions carefully when setting up the bike and double check that the brakes are configured correctly before you set out on your first ride.
The RXT comes with front and back ‘v’ brakes that performed well for me when testing them downhill at speed. ‘V’ brakes are generally considered superior to ‘U’ brakes and perform better in situations where you need as much friction as possible from them to stop safely.
North Face have equipped the RTX with an 18 speed gear system and a set of grip shifters manufactured by Shimano. The gears worked well for me and even though grip shifters are looked down upon by many hardcore mountain bikers I find that using grip shifters gives me greater control of the handlebars when changing gear.
Like many budget mountain and road bikes the saddle is often the most important factor when it comes to user comfort. The North Gear RXT is no exception and the saddle could easily be upgraded or equipped with a padded cover to make this bike a much better ride on long trips.
If you are looking to get back on the saddle after a long break from any form of cycling or just want to explore some bike trails then the North Gear RTX is a strong choice. With a price tag of around £100 you would be hard-pressed to find a better bike for any less.
